Sonic & Knuckles
It was around the time I discovered I could have a smooth Sega Genesis emulator on my old phone that this remix came about. I was playing a lot of Sonic 3 & Knuckles and this song kept getting stuck in my head. Additionally, it had been requested a few times after the Flying Battery Zone cover.
Whenever I get a new piece of equipment or change something in the recording process, I like to do a simpler song to get a good feel of how to go about mixing/recording/etc the new thing. In this case, this song would debut my new Epiphone Goth Thunderbird IV bass. Previously I was using a cheap low budget Ibanez guitar, so this bass sounded a lot better. I used the T-Bird IV from this point forward till 2013 when I switched to an SX Ursa 5.
The difference between the original Sandopolis Zone 1 and Sandopolis Zone 2 themes are subtle, but a bit more emphasised in this remix. Sandopolis Zone 2 is a little bit slower and creepy sounding, so in this remix I gave it more of a doomy feel.
At the end of Zone 2, we back the hell up and redo Zone 1 in a speed metal rendition. Just a little added bonus for those looking for a fast version.
Sandopolis is a fairly simple song, but very catchy. Egyptian sounding lines always sound neat on guitar. This is another one of my favorites from the 2011 era.
