Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire

A couple of years ago, when I was about to do the Champion Battle remake actually, I was listening to the soundtrack from Fire Red / Leaf Green when I stumbled upon the Deoxys theme. Needless to say, I thought it was awesome and kept it on my to-do list.

I have a thing for game songs that sound different from their usual counterparts, and this is one of them. Deoxys theme has a big, epic feel to it whereas most of the other Pokemon battle music is fast paced and exciting.

This song was a blast to do. I even managed to hit the 5 minute mark quite easily; normally I have trouble getting a song past 4 minutes. I teetered back and forth with the idea of doing 'Deoxys Appearance' as the intro, and wound up doing it. I figured as long as I kept it below 30 seconds it would be good. I added some other things to the Deoxys Appearance intro, such as a basic horror string line, a brass part and a couple of other things. It's sort of One Winged Angely, but it works pretty good.

One of the main things I wanted to get as close as possible to the original was the square lead line that plays throughout the main verses. It was pretty hard to transcribe because the original has that wacky thing going on where certain notes are panned left and other notes are panned right, and it's not always easy to hear exactly where each note is supposed to be. I think what I ended up with is fairly close to the original, sounds good either way.

I'm really happy with how the solo part turned out. I went with the Guitar vs Keyboard dual again, but this time was a bit less lax with the keyboard part (vs Cradle). I've been neglecting my keyboard practice for a long while so I've been trying to do a little more lately. I think all the parts came out great.

I was actually going to do this song a few months ago but couldn't squeeze it in due to time constraints. Now it's finally here and it turned out fantastic. This may be one of my favorite GaMetal songs now. Hopefully it will be for you too!
